A few years ago, David Edward Byrd, the only artist for all the concerts at the FIllmore East, creator of some of Broadway's most memorable images and conceptual artist instrumental in the development of the Harry Potter graphic franchise, discovered a yellowed folder of concept pencil sketches for some of his most memorable posters, 14 in all._
This one, the original Woodstock poster design, was created when the event was scheduled to be held in Wallkill, NY. After being banned by the Wallkill Woodstock community, the event was moved to Yasgur's farm and Arnold Skolnick was hired to create the new poster because David could not be reached.
On the left is David's original concept sketch and, on the right, the final image._ _ About his poster's strange place in rock history, David says, ""In the spring of 1969, Woodstock Ventures asked me to do a poster for the large outdoor concert they were planning for the village of Woodstock, NY. in August of that year. I based the poster on Ingre's La Source and surrounded that image with cupids, flowers and hearts in jewel-tone colors. After I delivered the art to the printer in late June, I left for a month in the Caribbean to a town with 30 people and no telephone. During this time, the town of Woodstock forbade the show and it had to be moved to Max Yasgur's farm. As I was not available to do a new poster, it was done by another artist, and appropriately became very famous, while this version is mostly forgotten."" This Artist Proof was published in 2013. It is an authentic, licensed edition created and personally signed by David. It is a very nice print, very frameable and collectible.
